Veterinary Assistance

Compassionate Care for Those in Need

At the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA, we are committed to providing basic veterinary care to animals whose owners cannot afford private veterinary fees. Although we do not have an on-site veterinarian, we partner with a private veterinary hospital to ensure that animals receive the medical attention they need. Our goal is to offer social assistance to those who qualify, ensuring that no animal suffers due to financial constraints.

Social Assistance Veterinary Care

Our veterinary services are not free, but we offer discounted rates for underprivileged owners and pensioners. Assistance is provided through a Means Test, which helps us determine eligibility for reduced fees. This support is designed to ensure that pet owners in financial need can provide necessary care for their animals.

Services Offered:

Sterilisations: Reducing pet overpopulation and promoting long-term health.
Vaccinations: Protecting pets from disease.
Deworming & Microchipping: Basic preventative care services.
Emergency Assistance: Immediate care for animals in critical condition.
Euthanasia: Although difficult, sometimes some fates are worse than death. Our team will guide you in making this heartbreaking but often necessary decision with compassion.

While we strive to provide a range of services, it’s important to note that specialised treatments or extensive surgeries may need to be referred to other veterinary facilities, at your own cost.

How We Work

All veterinary consultations and treatments are conducted through our partner private veterinarian, save for vaccinations, deworming, and micro-chipping.
To qualify for assistance, pet owners will undergo a Means Test to assess their financial situation. We aim to help as many people as possible while ensuring that support goes to those most in need.
We do not have a veterinarian on call after hours. If your pet needs urgent medical attention outside of our operating hours, we recommend contacting your nearest emergency veterinary service.

Responsible Pet Ownership

At the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA, we promote responsible pet ownership. All animals brought to us for treatment or adoption are sterilised and vaccinated, helping to control pet overpopulation and prevent the spread of diseases.
